What is the Northwest Center for Fluency Disorders Interprofessional Intensive Stuttering Clinic (NWCFD-IISC)?
The NWCFD-IISC is a collaborative effort between the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders and the Department of Counseling at Idaho State University. The clinic seeks to treat the multidimensionality of the stuttering syndrome using appropriately trained professionals and will be held from August 1 through August 16, 2014. Overt stuttering will be treated by Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) professionals, using individualized methods based on conscious control of altering motor speech production. Associated domains of stuttering will be treated by counseling professionals using psychoeducation, individual, and group counseling. Not only does this program benefit individuals who stutter, it offers a unique opportunity for SLP and Counseling students to expand their skills in interprofessional collaboration.

The vision of the Northwest Center for Fluency Disorders (NWCFD) is to establish a global presence among the stuttering community and to develop a premier clinic and training environment for professionals interested in providing a holistic evidence-based treatment for individuals who stutter.
The mission for the NWCFD-IISC has three primary goals: Service to the client, training competent professionals, and to align with the Division of Health Sciences Core Values. The clinic aims to provide a holistic evidence-based treatment approach to clients who stutter, by efficiently and effectively treating both overt and covert aspects of stuttering.
